  • Jiger 152

Hi! My name is Chris. I live in California and am looking at possibly getting an AATV. My interest was sparked when a Jiger 152 came up for sale locally. I watched a youtube video ( ATV JIGER - YouTube ) of it and thought I had to have it! I went to look at the machine and it looks to be in pretty good condition. Motor is out and needs new mounts but compression was good according to the seller. The chains and axles all seem to move well though I cannot really assess the tires/wheels which I think may be original. I have become concerned that parts may be a very real problem for such a rare old machine so I have cooled off a bit on buying it. Since then I came across a 1997 max IV which cost lots more but I think parts and knowledge (help) will be more readily available. Another upside is that if properly outfitted, I can use the Max at work since the required roll over protection can be added. Please copy this to another thread if it seems like the thing to do.
Any Jiger owners: I'd like to know if that YouTube video is for real, can a jiger really do all that? Was it just a souped up model for the factory?

    Thanks!

I'm new to these things as well and the only one I've seen in 40 years is the one in my driveway. If you're looking at the Jiger in Scotts Valley we live fairly close to each other too.

I got a Max IV about 7 months ago and I'm still working on it. It rusted solid and I'm having to go through it from end to end. The help I'm getting here has been great, but in spite of that it isn't cheap or fast to get it running again. I would suggest that unless you like working on stuff, you get something that runs. So I think a big part of the decision will be do you want a project or a ride? A project will likely not save you any money.

Hello chris caris, welcome to the hobby and 6x6world. In my opinion you made the right decision to hold off on the Jiger. Although the Jiger is a fine machine,in my opinion,it is something a veteran would "add" to their collection as opposed to a first machine for a novice. I think you would be much more successful (=happy) with the Max IV for exactly the reasons you are already thinking and more.

Yes, it is the one in Scotts valley. I am still on the fence as to what to do. Looking also at a Max IV in Sutter for a lot more money but it is running well. I hate to miss out on this Jigger as it seems to be in real good condition.

It would be a cool vintage collectable AATV to have, but I wouldn't run it on the trails.....it's way too nice to risk damaging it.
