  • Sperry Rand Tricart

After seeing liflods pictures again today I wanted to know more about these cool looking trikes. Fill me in on the details.

According to the Dayton Business Journal - John Plessinger, president of Design Evolution 4 (makers of a new electric car chassis) originally designed the Tricart for his Thesis and then later sold the patent to Sperry Rand Corp in Lebanon who went on to make 40,000 of these trikes!

For those of you that have owned one or do own one, how do they drive ie, speed, how easy to steer, do they float, etc. What motor do most of them have?

They didn't float, but they went through pretty much anything else. Hmike's parents had a pair of them and we all had a blast driving them around. They came stock with a JLO 230cc single and were pretty darn fast. Later models came with a four-stroke Briggs- that's the model in the picture with the two goobers on it. They steered as well or better than any of the other three-wheelers of the time, and WAY better than any of the Japanese machines. Sperry also made a smaller version; the Tricub, with a Briggs engine and standard flotation tires on the back.

Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

    (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

It looks like one of those 3 wheeled vehicles that they use to groom infields on baseball diamonds and sand traps on golf courses........I think Mike C and his dad have a John Deere version

The pictures I posted were taken by the designer and sent to prospective manufactures. If you notice, there are no decals on them. I have at least 20 different pictures. I only scanned a few of them. I had one and then sold it before it ran. Don wont bring his to any parties so we can play with it.

Don, I should have known that you would come through with a picture! Thanks for that info and that looks like a blast to drive. Does it wheelie easily?

liflod, you would think that an atv enthusiast such as Don would be willing to bring his Tricart to a meet and share it with a fellow enthusiast especially since you had one but never got to run it.

I have a tricart that's in excellent original shape. I've had it for a few years and never could get it to run properly enough to really ride it. It's on my list of "projects to do"

I finally had the chance to meet with TMECARS last night and check out his projects. I was there for his maiden run of the Tricart. Here is a picture of the memorable event. I'll let him chime in to defend himself.

Awesome! I want to know if it is still in one piece after the landing?

Edit: Please tell me that you got video of this monumental event!

My buddy Liflod is out of his mind!!!!!He fell off the back of the tricart right before we hit the jump. He never did spill his beer, though.

                        bringing back an old thread

i've been looking at 2 different tricubs on ebay. can anyone shed some light on the differences between them and the tricart. i know engine and tires... were the drivelines the same except engine and clutch? do they have rear suspension? the tricubs look to have "ape hanger" style handlebars, were they all that way?
                        thanks for any input
