  • F570 PUG 6x4 ATV - wont stay in gear

I've got a PUG F570 6x4 and I need some advice. Supposedly it is a fantastic machine that is made in America and has all kinds of parts available which I hope is true! My problem is that no matter how I adjust the shifter rod it will just not stay in gear. It only has forward and reverse so it shouldn't be too complicated but I'm not mechanical. I've tried to take a coat hanger and wire it into forward and that helps but even then when I go up hill it jumps out of gear. I think it must be something in the transmission but I'm not sure. I've heard that the transmission is a Spicer Model 12, part number 012AJ202 2.

    I have a few questions:
    1) Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?
    2) Does anyone know where I can get a service/parts manual? I have tried Bob Keith (Frog Pond) and Richard's Relics.
    3) I have been told that the transmission is a Spicer model 12, #012AJ302 2. Is this correct? If I take this detail to a transmission repair shop should they be able to rebuild it for me?

Thanks for everyone's time! Much appreciated.

John, welcome to the forum. There are only a handful of Pug owners on the board so be patient and someone may be able to help. If not, reply back to this thread in a couple of days. As a broad statement for transmissions in general, the popping out of gear is often caused by either worn gears or worn detents for any detent balls/springs. I know nothing about the pug transmission and that may not apply to it but I just wanted to throw that out to get the discussion started. Hopefully someone with some actual Pug knowledge will chime in.
