  • Supacat ATMP

I was going to start the thread with some information on the different Mk’s, but instead, a video from 13 years ago.

A few years back, a friend had told me that he had watched a documentary on 9/11 and had seen a Supacat with a trailer fitted with stretchers during the early hours of the rescue at the Pentagon. I doubted his identification, until he had mentioned several characteristics that were unique to the Supacat and the stretcher layout of the Flip-it trailer. Though I never have found the video he spoke of, I was able to locate this video of a short bit of a Supacat doing logistic work later in the day.
The Supacat factory is aware of the ATMP being there (after the fact), but has no idea why it was at the Pentagon in the first place.

The Supacat in the video is a Mk3, and appears to be wearing a UK license and European style warning beacons.

I have a 1st generation that is designed to be a covered personal carrier. They are built like tanks ;-)

I can add a few photos on that subject:

I think the machine belonged to these guys:

          Thanks for posting those pics.
I would say those are the same Cat, but would question the ownership at the different times. The headlamp in front of the handlebars is an odd setup, and in the latter pics with “Firestopper”, the jerry can holders are removed and the blue beacon was exchanged for a second red one, plus new decal and possibly reflective tape on the side of the ramp storage space.
Unfortunately, I get an error message when I try to load www.firestopper.us.
If I had to make a guess… it would be that the Cat was owned by the US (though prior license in the UK), and after whatever trials/testing were done, donated to the Firestopper organization.

Do you want to buy one or two? I know a guy who has two and looking to get rid of them from last time I spoke to him

I have 2 Supacat Mk2A's from CF DART, both with the 1.9 TDI. I have one for sale.
The pics are of my Cats, also the flip-it trailer and a ex-RAF bomb disposal trailer.
The Flip-it (later updated to the Self Loading Pallet trailer) are very interesting trailers, as the tongue extends, the tilt can be done from the driver's seat or the trailer, and has post to load material loose.

Also, in the last post you'll notice that the flip-it trailer can be loaded onto the Supacat using the on-broad loading ramps and the mid-mounted winch. This makes for a clean deployment package. Also the trailers can be daisy chained. I've also posted pics of the Supacat with a Mk3 Sankey and water tank, and the covered trailer is a Sankey Mk2A field cooking trailer. Though I've never used them, I have tracks with both Cats (Ackerman steering must be locked to prevent steering)

Good eyes. But to absolutely correct, it is a 101 Vampire
Another one of my vehicles for sale... The last 14 years I've seem to have added vehicles without selling an "equal" number
If you read my introduction, I have a tendency to be drawn to "unique" military vehicles (mostly European), and even the fielding cooking trailer is extremely unique on how the Brits made it so compact and manageable with a lot in it.
If you like LARGE, I've also built a Representative of a "War Pig"

I just noticed you are in the UK. So you may appreciate this. I was offered and bought an ATL Pinzgauer XM 718K at the end of last year. It was the North American sales demonstrator , with only 262 miles on it. I've had some rare vehicles, but nothing as rare or nice as this Pinz I can thank the FMTV gods

ha ha, one of those passed me on the motorway the other week, it must have been absolutely flat out

Had a sankey trailer some years ago to tow behind the Land Rover, too heavy to be of much use though. They were being sold by a firm who stockpiled them on an old airfield in Yorkshire, they had hundreds of the things. Can't think of the name of the firm but they were (still are) in Misson, Yorkshire.

Had a good look round a Llama some years ago, when they were still thinking of producing them. Nice cab and driving area, pity they didn't make them for the civilian market as it would have been a useful little truck with the 300tdi in it.

As you say, the cooking trailer was a good bit of kit. Seems we can design and build prototypes wonderfully well, we just mess up on production, it all goes pear shaped when we have to organise and build large quantities.

You can use this site: Internet Archive: Wayback Machine to view old web pages. Many of the photos and videos won't be available as they don't archive larger files but I did see this page that had the Supacat in a photo: Extreme Technologies Corp FireStopper AB 40002 FFC . Note that you have to click on "Services on the left" as I can't like directly to that page. There may be more photos/info but I just clicked a few times.

It looks like their website was started in 2002 and it went offline in 2005.

In the little I’ve had mine on the road, it hasn’t had any problem at 75mph (125kph) after replacing filters and straightening out the factory ‘defects’. The people at BAE, Sealy had no knowledge on Pinzes and “stupid” things kept the vehicle from having miles on it, and items it never should have left the factory with. My good fortune… I have a new Pinzgauer that I control how it is broken in. This is my 4th, and each has been newer and different than the other... Definitely nothing newer or better made by ATL/BAE since

Sankeys are heavy, but well balanced… if you ever had to move a US equivalent, you’d praise the Mk2A and especially the Mk3.

I had to look up the Llama. I had forgotten them, they were a neat design. I did have a Unimog 1300L for a while, and still have the FMTV, which would be a grown up Llama. LOL

Thanks Mike, I had forgotten wayback machine... hard to believe, it is on my favorite list

And to get back on topic, a couple of a Supacat with WMIK (Weapon Mount Installation Kit)... maybe, someday I'll find a kit to update one of my Cats
It's not like it needs it... my Cats tip the scale at over 4200 lbs and bigger than any sub compact, and many compacts.
