Picked up a Coot 4ws, with a 14hp Vanguard engine. Interior of the tubs are pretty rusted. Had to cut a hole in the side to get the engine out, besides the other holes already in it.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.

The B&S V-twin is a nice upgrade to Coots. Most came with 12hp Tec's, with a late model option of an 18 available. The 14 will be just fine in that machine. Low gearing and a good power to weight ratio help as well. I would remove some of the excess metal on the chain guard so that the engine can intake some cool air.
My Coot has an 18hp B&S which feels about perfect, if not a little too much power.
The beauty with steel is that its easy to patch up, so no matter how many holes there may be to weld up, it just takes time and a welder.
The 4ws / 4 wd machines are the most sought after.
Congrats on the find.

Cool old Coot. Looks like it was originally orange like mine. Tub doesn't look that rusty to me. Good luck with your build. Remember Coottom@aol.com is the go to guy for all things Coot.

Project update
All the bearings were good except the left front. It was missing a few ball bearings. The bearing was replaced. I welded a few patches into the tubs and painted the inside and outside of the tubs. Getting ready to put the engine back in.
