That's correct. A vast swath of Russia is a peat bog. Not solid enough to walk on, dry on the first few inches to give a false sense of security. There are lots of WW2 relics including trucks, tracked armored vehicles and occasionally aircraft that attempted to land in the wrong areas being recovered from the bogs. In Alaska and Canada its called Muskkeg(sp??). Its basically the same terrain in Russia.Originally posted by john swenson View Postthey use those style tires and straps on alot of their off road machines. looks like they are just extra thick innertubes. johnboy va.
It was such problem during the war that the Germans were able to essentially ward off the Russians on the Leningrad (northern front) even though the Russians had a 10 to 1 numerical superiority, until very late in the war.Last edited by Noel Woods; 11-08-2014, 09:41 PM.
