  • DIY Tracked Swamp Buggy

It has begun...I'm ripping apart a few scrap pieces of farm equipment and am building my own tracked swamp buggy.

few days ago I got the first machine into the shop...

Main reason for choosing this old swather was the hydrostatic drives
    IMG_5070.jpg

Had the tractor going so I lined up the other two swathers and bolted them together
    IMG_5071.jpg

Did more work today on the machine in the shop...almost have it torn all apart...Took a drive wheel off and then realized it would make the machine too low so back to the original plan of using the two swathers, that and they had square backs...lol...

After a browse through here. I noticed that the LTV KID uses the same Wisconson motor and Vickers hydrostatic transmission. The motor can be found in Versatile 103 Swathers and early 400's while the transmission are in Versatile 400 swathers...Just food for thought

Got the tear down complete on the swather in the shop...
          IMG_5075.jpgIMG_5072.jpgIMG_5073.jpg

Motor off. Slid it onto a few tires then to the floor...Much better than trying to lift it down...lol
          IMG_5074.jpg

Nor sure if I will use the open station but meh. Also have an oil cooler and filter that I'm planning on using

Hmm. Did I mention this is a wife disapproved project.

Tomorrow after I push some snow and do the farm chores, I will pull out the old frame and move the joined frame in and start clearing it off to get ready for the building. I'm hoping it will fit...lol...

Thanks for sharing your build with us, I really like seeing old things repurposed and built into new and different things.

I'm keeping a close eye on this thread.

No progress today...Other than loosing out on a burnt MX110 CIH tractor with a 6bt Cummins engine. If I had gotten it in the auction within my budget, I could have sold the loader off and recouped my money back.

Tomorrow I will have the tractor going so I can move a few things around...

                Lesson learned...

Yup...Don't use two bolts to hold things together...

                IMG_5079.jpg

Bolts held...Just the frame bent...Glad I took that heavy motor off...

I was going to take pics but the camera battery needs to be recharged...

Also to mention...I measured the length and made sure I had enough room in my shop...forgot to measure the width...had inches to spare putting it in...Am thinking the tracks may need to be put on outside...

I have two Wisconsin engines that I won't be using...I think shipping to Florida would be the issue...
