Vic, that is a Sierra Trail Boss. If you look in the brochure section of the site on the second page you will find a couple of old brochures on it.
Here's the direct link: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/brand...rail-boss.html
Also, if you search the photo gallery you can find some pictures of other trail bosses owned by members of this site. Here's a link to that search: http://www.6x6world.com/gallery/sear...?searchid=2034

Sierra trail boss
Thanks Mike. I found some info on clutch adjustment. Learned the term,"centering the pointer" . I have already messed with the adjusters but didn't know what I was doing. They are kinda sensitive I gather and have to be ballanced between foward and reverse to work right. I didnn't know what was inside, now I know there are bands and drums that are connected by a hex shaft. That connection explains why I could not get more foward thrust by only adjusting that side. Do you know what weight oil is suposed to be in the clutch boxes? I haven't found any make or modle # yet on the clutches. Can you tell from the pictures I posted what they might be? Thanks...Vic

Just wanted to remeber how bad it steared before I made adjustments. Now I'm worn out. Have to do it tommorrow. Man that thing is a cardial vascular work out and my ears are still ringing. I have got to work on that exaust system. Think I better put some fresh fuel mix in too. Think there's more oil then gas, Still cann't see out my windows....Vic

What you have are two transmissions; each needing their own "Fine-Tuneing" for forward and reverse. As far as lubrication goes; the original operators manual calls for 30w oil. However, in my research, I found that dextron II AFT can be used. I refurbished my trannys, and am useing ATF with no problems so far. With the adjustment proceedure, there are a few things to be aware of. 1; there are two types of trannys. "Old style" and "New Style". 2; Each tranny has to be adjusted seperately, 3; You have to adjust forward and reverse seperately on each tranny. And 4; "BE PATIENT"!!!!! Wether you have the old or new style tranny doesn't really matter. The major design and adjustment is the same. If you stand at the back of the vehicle and look at the adjusting screws on the trannys, the two that are closest to the outboard sides of the vehicle and point torward the back are the adjusters for your forward bands. The other two ( in-board and pointing torward the front) are your reverse band adjusters. As a starting point, loosen the jam nuts and turn the adjusting screws (4) in 1/4 turn at at time until you cannot move your latterals [control levers] forward or backwards. (The arm on the trans shaft should point either straight up or down depending on wether you have the old or new style trannys.) Now back the screws out/loosen (all 4) 1/4 turn and tighten lock/jam nuts. Try and move your control levers back and forth. When you do, the arm on the trans shaft should move equally back or forth. NOT TO EXCEED 5 degrees. Test drive and readjust as needed. You may have to do it 4 or 5 times. The 5 degrees is not concrete. You can go looser or tighter (as you feel comfotrable with, but I would use the 5 degrees as my tightest as any tighter would cause excessive drag and heat.) The key is this; You have two transmissinos with two bands, each requiring equal adjustment. Take all of this and put it together and you want to achieve/maintain a "BALANCE" between the 4 elements. Once you aquire that "BALANCE" you can adjust/loosen up the laterals if you choose. But remember, YOU MUST DO ALL ADJUSTMENTS EQUALLY FOR EACH TRANNY!. That means if you adjust 1 band screw, you MUST adjust the other 3. Forward band adjustment affects your reverse band adjustment, and visa-versa. "BALANCE", "BALANCE", "BALANCE", "BALANCE"!. Hope this helps, and if you need any help, gimme' a call. I'm in Wisconsin, 414-940-4591. ABC Locksmith services will accept messages 24/7 if I do not answer. It's all just nuts and bolts.
