Chaparral axle question

I just picked up an early 70's Chaparral 6x6. It is in pretty rough shape so i'm going to do a complete rebuild. After tearing the axles out, which was a bear, I noticed that two of the axles had smaller diameter ends. They are on the opposite end of the tire. I was wondering where they should be located when I put it back together, front, middle or back. Any help would be awesome because I can't wait to get this thing going.

I just did a rebuild on an early 70's Chaparral, all my axles are the same size, someone must have had them replaced at one time.

Thank you for the reply, I'll just have to get two smaller inner bearings.
