  • New guy need scrambler info

Hey all, new to the forum and to the 6x6 world. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the mechanics of these machines so please pardon any mistakes or mis understandings. Looking at a scrambler that's on Craigslist in my area. Motor and clutch are gone. And parts are pretty hard to get.Is it possible to mount a 300cc ATV motor in it directly to one of the drives?

Hi Frenzyrenz, welcome to the forum. Some of the parts on our ATVs are common drivetrain parts that are not specific to the machines themselves. Things like bearings & flanges are easy to source. Many of our machines also have generic sprockets on them but the Scrambler has some larger sprockets that may be harder to source? For your engine question, anything is possible. It depends on how much fabrication you are willing to do. Just be conscious of a general lack of airflow within the tubs that could be an issue depending on the motor you choose.

Outside of the engine and clutch, are there other parts that you're worried about having to locate? Does it have a transmission in it?

Finally, what do you plan on doing with the 6x6 when you get it? Are you wanting to trail ride, zip around the yard, race, etc?

mines a 1968 scrambler, and its without reverse, was before they had it, but I had enough room to put in a predator vtwin 22hp, becareful about putting a motor too much power, chains are only as strong as the weakest link,
