  • Coot 4ws question

After a 2 1/2 year break, I am finally getting back to work on my coot project. Need a little help on the conversion from 2ws to 4ws. There are two vertical shafts that all of the steering arms are mounted to. 1 next to the transmission, and the other next to the rear torque transmitter box. I will be mounting the bottom of the shafts in flanged bearings. From all of the pictures that I have studied, the top of the shaft looks to just be riding on the shoulder of a 3/8 bolt. Is this the case? Or is there a bushing somewhere in the upper mount? I have to build upper mount anyway, so mounting pillow block bearing up there is certainly not out of the question.

It is just riding on the bolt.

Ok. Thanks. I screwed up and welded my steering arms to the shafts without drilling and taping the shafts in the lathe first. Now I have to hand drill them.
