I talked to the president of the company who is importing the chinese made 8x8. He told me that he went to the Chinese factory that builds the 3 cyclinder motors for his 8x8, and was quite satisfied with their opperation there. He also told me that he does a lot of other test on these machines after he receives them at this shop. He said he will have all parts in stock for any warrenty work if needed.
He also told me a machine like his ,thats imported into the US, has to pass very stringent EPA requirements before it can be sold here. He said that he will send an 8x8 to California for EPA testing. As you know, this is the most stringent EPA state in the nation for this kind of test. This test will cost his company $25,000 he told me.
The California EPA will perform test on his 8x8 for about 8-10 hrs a day. This will total up to 6,200 miles! No other amphib company is faced with these kind of requirements.
These test will include: stop and start , emergency stopping, running the engine for long periods of time,in both low gear and high gear, braking from high speed and low speed , plus skid steering from side to side repeatedly.
He told me that his company would first start out with a six month warrenty, and later on hopefully, offer an optional one year or more warrenty.
He said that Amsoil has offered to sponser the engines in his 8x8,s with their own warrenty if his company makes it their factory oil.The three cyclinder ,water cooled engines, in his 8x8,s are also used in three or four other cars now made in China. These engines have been in use since the early 1980,s he told me.
This machine has disc brakes on the axles like most Argo,s and will skid steer the same way. I has an automotive " open style differential ". The lower tub is curved ,with 9 inches of ground clearance at the highest point. The upper and lower tub is made out of plastic and Kevlar fiber. The tub material is 5 milimeters thick. Later on his company plans to offer a " removable ", rubber bumber that will go around the whole upper tub. The rubber bumper will have push plugs to hold it in. The rubber bumper can then be removed ,and a duck blind attached in its place the same way.
