1971 Skipper

Hi everyone. Havnt posted in a while but still get out and tear up the grass with Bazooo.
I just picked up a 1971 Skipper as a project and plan to restore it.
Would love to hear from other skipper owners and any video would be cool.

How does that transmission work?
I've never seen one like it.

I didnt open the trans yet but it uses bands with friction material on them to steer.
Must be a limited slip that drives the opposite side when one side is stopped.
Has Fwd ,Neutral and reverse. The steering is linked to the bands with small chains.
Brakes are a hand lever with cable to a single disk on the trans.

Opened the trans today and all looks good inside.

Thanks for the post and the pictures. Looks like a nice compact unit. I'm not a huge fan of the differential steering, but it does get the job done!

I cant find any ID markings or any tag on the trans?
Ive seen a similar trans case in an attex but it didnt have reverse.

Hey there, I’m new. Nice to meet everyone, I’m going to look at a 62 skippy tomorrow and have been told by the seller that it has one cracked spider gear in the transmission. I was looking at the pics posted of the transmission and it has me worried about finding parts like that. Any idea what gears the skippy used back in the day. I’m assuming they were built with available parts not ones they manufactured themselves. Thx
