  • Help identifying Winch

Hi all, I recently acquired my first Coot, it came with what the owner said was an original winch. Made sense to me, however I sent photos to CootTom and he’s never seen this model. No Ebay or Google results either. Anyone ever seen this model before and have any information? It currently has some 185 pound rated utility rope on it . I will be replacing that. Though I’d like to make sure it was well oiled etc before I put it to use.

Very cool old winch....I do beleive that is actually an old anchor winch. I've seen a similar unit on a dive boat we used to charter. Let me see if my google foo is working this morning.

There is something cool about using era correct equipment, also the idea of never needing electricity is nice. I just don't want to be under the false impression this is worth keeping attached if it's not rated for this kind of work. I don't want to invest in $100 synthetic line if all it can do is apply a few hounded pounds of force. As well as what if any maintenance it needs such as oil, grease etc.
