  • New Terra Tiger

Hey all, just picked up this Terra Tiger over in Jucumba,CA and brought it to it's new home in San Diego. Gotta love the roof rack! They guy said is was a 1971...needs left rear axel, rims/tires and engine oil?? are these two strokes? If so I thought there was still oil in the case? Suggestions welcome.

'Looks like an L252- about ten HP. They're not a bad little engine, but they don't have a lot of lugging power for hills or heavy hauling. If your budget allows it, you may want to go with a bigger two-stroke or a four-stroke engine (yes, everyone, I said a four-stroke).

machine looks pretty decent. axle should be easy. the engine doesn't need oil in the case, just premix with the gas. i see the ignition switch is missing out of the dash. you'll need a switch of some sort to ground the coil for shutoff, and another for the lights if you want them to work. pm me your e-mail address and i can send you the owners manual and service manual in a pdf file if you want them. good luck getting the tiger up and running

Welcome to the site - I'm in San Diego too (City Heights/Talmadge area) w/ a max II that I'm trying to finish replacing all the axles/bushings on right now (also a 2 stroke).

JLO Spec'd 20:1. Some debate that you can go much lighter than that with newer oils (40-50:1 and even up to 80:1). I run at 20:1 and although it smokes more, you can get more power out of it than with leaner oil mixtures. (Yes, debated too, but I have compared in various 2-strokes myself, and I feel I do get more power with a higher oil content, to a point, more than 20:1 and you start to loose power again, and I have seen dyno graphs done by others that also support this. Only downsides is good oil isn't cheap, and you are more likely to foul a plug if your too rich or too cool a plug.)
