The only brake I have is internal to the transmission. Although my belt is adjusted tight enough to slightly spin the transmission at idle, bumping the laterals will stop it so there is no damage to the transmission when changing gears. The brake I have is designed for steering and forward/reverse movement, not to control the driven clutch.

A little movement in your secondary clutch may be just fine (I don't know how your transmission works) as long as you aren't grinding gears and causing damage. Where are you located? Maybe there is a member near you that could help.

I'm near Niagara Falls, Ontario. When I had the longer belt on it, it was completely gutless in a road test, which is why I brought in a shorter belt. It would have way too much slack around the primary (way more than your pics show) if it was loose enough to not spin the secondary. I guess I will keep playing with it, although last night I shifted the trans to the side a bit to make a little more room, so I now need a longer bolt, as I had to shim out the primary again. Luckily CT has a bolt in stock.

This belt is 1/16" smaller than what the Comet calls for. I've got room to adjust both ways. How's it look so far?

Is your engine at idle in that pic?

Looks like it will work, but the belt is too narrow. It should be at the very top of the driven for the lowest gear ratio.

Were you able to play the video? Did you see the 'flop' around the primary when decelerating?

I'm sorry I didn't even realize it was a video when I opened it with my phone this morning. But I have watched it now. The tension looks to be ok and it should run. Regarding the flop, I'm not sure if mine does it or not, but the cause of it the driven not closing as fast as the drive is opening when you drop to idle. If you will look inside the spring on your driven clutch you can see the shaft the sheave slides along. If its not clean spray some silicone lubricant on it to help it move better. You don't want a petroleum based lube getting on the belt or sheave faces.

Also, it looks like the belt alignment is slightly off, but pictures can be deceptive. You want your alignment as close to perfect as possible. I've attached an exaggerated sketch to indicate which way it looks off. In a separate post I'll tell you what method I use to align my clutches.

Here's how I align my clutches:

Good eye, put a straight edge across the back of the primary and it is out about 1/8 - 3/16 across the secondary pulley. This SHOULD be a quick fix, but nothing ever is.

Another video. Crazy what a difference a belt adjustment will do. Still have to line up the engine a little bit better and I'm going to get a belt that's 1/16" wider, like the clutch calls for. It has a good wobble to it, the rear right seems to sit lower in the wheel well. Not sure if that's the culprit, or if they all wobble?

So I realized that I had the rear wheels reversed, so they weren't rotating the way the tires are supposed to. Would this cause wobble? Just working on re-positioning the brake, so won't be able to test it out at this time.

It has a good wobble to it
You mean the whole machine has a wobble as you drive it, or some part has a wobble? If its the whole machine it could be a bent axle or rim. If you have an aggressive tire you could also feel the cleats as they make contact with hard ground. Check that all tires are the same size and equally inflated (I guess that thing has positive traction?)

However, if your wobble is more like a vibration, then you should look at the high speed rotating parts (engine and trans). If you can, try to relate your wobble to a frequency or an event. For example, does it seem to match the rotation of the tires, or the engine speed. Does it wobble only when turning? This always helps me identify the problem.

Glad to see this machine under its own power. Belts and CVs can be a pain but once their figured out they pretty much are set and forget for the life of the unit I find.

If you don't already have one. I suggest making a youtube account. Will be able to upload full quality videos and will be a lot easier to see whats going on to help with issues.
As well as enjoy your machine in action (:

A few updates, mostly just from the last few days:

Picked this bull-bar up off a Pathfinder, came with lights too:
                                20200508_175945.jpg

Stripped it down, as well as the bumper, and welded on some brackets. Turned out pretty decent if I do say so:
                                20200509_191915.jpg

Wired up the lights and kept blowing fuses. Was advised to add in a relay to the highbeam circuit, which I did:
                                20200514_210256.jpg

                                Yup:
                                20200514_210321.jpg

Took it out for it's first run off road. https://photos.app.goo.gl/d9r4jHr6hmejgpgg8

Ran really good, but didn't want to shift. Saw that the shifter was hitting the brake caliper, so I drilled it a new hole and solved for that issue.

                                20200517_152431.jpg

It still wobbles quite a bit on the smooth road, but I have two tires that are flat. I'm going to go with some tire slime and see if I can eliminate that as well.
