The first amphibian I ever saw was at a local county fair in 1963,I was about 7 at the time. They took me for a ride in it.It was called a Penguin.Granted it only had four wheels and only drove on the back two.It had a two stroke engine and to go in reverse you stopped the engine and started it in reverse LOL.They were quite an innovation.Anyone ever hear tell of these?

I own several Penguins. They were made in my home town, Carleton Place Ontario, in 1964, previously build in Ottawa Ontario on 1963. If you are looking for more information, my Penguin and Beaver page has moved to https://sites.google.com/view/kevins...eaverpage/home . There is also a FB group "Penguin Amphibious ATV's", and several videos on youtube posted by me and other owners. There were less than 1000 Penguins built over two years and one of the last produced was presented to Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth. The Penguin was 2 wheel drive, powered by an British made VIlliers engine with 4 speed transmission. The electric starter/generator would start the engine in either direction so you had 4 speed availablw in reverse as well. They were propelled in the water by only the rear wheels so the 4mph speed in water indicated on the sales brochure was optomistic. The 35mph on ground felt quite fast as they have no suspension and the steering is through a yoke that swings from side to side.
