  • Amphicat 6 plunger Transmission

    Hi All,

I have a couple of older amphicats with the 6 plunger transmission. I was thinking of building a custom 2 track machine based on snowmobile tracks. My question to you all is. What is your experience with how much power these 6 plunger transmissions will take? and what kind of abuse can they take? Also any idea on Max Input RPM?

    Thanks

    Amphicat transsss

Hi i had a 440 ccw hooked up to it,,, does that answer that question? never hurt it..... about 34 hp.....
believe me, i've abused the same trans for 7-8 yrs,,,,, LOL NEVER hurt it.....
just make sure it is properly oiled, adjusted, and the vent is on it properly.....
As always, it depends on the weigh of the machine, what you expect, size of tracks , terreign etc,,,,,,

Thanks for the info. Is there any benifit of running extra oil in the transmission via an external tank (set up to be at the correct level just more in the system)? I was thinking of using a 600 or 1000 cc motor cycle engine and doing away with the driven clutch putting a sprocket there and hooking it directly to the bike engines sprocket. using the bike clutch for stoping and starting. and using the amphicat tranny for reverse.

Also With that 6 plunger tranny how does it work inside. Is it simply a breaking skid steer transmission or can you actualy vary the level of power to each track? I am just wondering what the best way to operate the transmission is. For instance a bulldozer it is better to not ride the lever but rather fully disenguage the side and then re engage it (you get longer clutch life that way) is this true of this amphicat trans?

Also are any parts avaliable? or any manuals avaliable?

      Thanks
