  • Sidewinder Restore or Sell?

    Hello Everybody.
I am working on my Amphicat and I decided to bring the Sidewinder to my shop just to look at while working on the Cat. The guy that bought these 6x6's ( there is a Terra Tiger too) didn't know if we should restore all 3 or sell one and use the proceeds to finance the restoration of the other two. I have the seat for the sidewinder also. It is the roughest of the 3. I am more use to the values of old boats and these 6x6's are new to me. Are some more valuable than others because of features or rarity? The Cat seems like it will be user friendly when I'm done so I'd like to keep it. He wants the Terra. I have seen references to the Sidewinder but not a ton. It is restorable but is it worth it? It looks pretty complete except for the engine. Just looking for input here. Thanks. Ron
(I don't know whose beer cans those are in the picture)

I kind of got stuck with a theory if I still can make a house payment, Im not selling any my amphibs. These older amphibs are hard to find. I cant tell you how many times I have sold something and later down the road wonder why the heck did I sell that. There arent many sidewinders out there and would make it even cooler to restore. Just my 2 cents.

      Sidewinder

      Thanks Larry.
I agree with your sentiment. If there is a chance that I will get to something I am reluctant to part with it. The sidewinder does appear to be a lttle bit of a different beast to me. The chain and sprockets have become one in spots.
The base plate looks like it needs to be replaced. Anything better than another steel plate? Some of the bearing housings have rotted away. As with the Cat I am replacing any old bearings with new more user friendly types. I guess I need to stare at it a little more yet. Thanks. Ron
