New Sierra Trail Boss owner

Hi I am new to this thread and to the 6x6 world. i just got a 1970 Trail boss and it needs a drive belt. Can anyone give me the sizes for the belt and any place i can get one. Also need manuals for this toy. It looks on fair shape and the motor runs great. the last owner said it is a 309 cc Kohler. is there anything i need to double check before i take off in it.

check transmissions oil/atf..... It's been so long since i had one,or wanted one, i forgot what it takes....

Thaks i plan on draining all the fluids and replacing them but i have been told to use 90 wiehgt and atf transmission fluid so until i know for sure i wait to drain it.

Belt

I just was looking for belts myself. I found this link posted that was very helpful http://www.gobigparts.com/store/driv...s/crossref.PDF . I ordered mine from mfgsupply.com , although I have an Attex, you should be able to measure the belt and find a number on the sheet. I assume they would have one for you.

Hardcid; welcome to the site. I may have a few things here that will help. The belt you are looking for is a (Salsbury part #) 704065. It is 43 1/4 x 1 1/2. Common snowmobile belts will work if you cross this number over to a DAYCO or Gates. Or what ever your supplier stocks. I am running a DAYCO HP3006 on my boss, and may go one size shorter. (Mind you, I converted mine to a Vangard motor) That Salsbury part number is for the ORIGINAL belt. As far as manuals goes, "Richard's Relics" sells repro owners and parts manuals. Finally. Tranny oil. The manual calls for 1 1/2 pint of non-detergent 30 wt oil. But there has been alot of discussion over time about 90 wt and ATF. My t-boss originally had 90 wt in the trannys. When I rebuilt them I switched to ATF and find that they run hot. I'm thinking of trying the 30 wt to see what happens. And on the tranny thing, there are two types/designs. "Old" and "New". The only Noticable difference is one has the actuator arms pointing down, and the other has them pointing up. (the rest is inside) Either way, they both work the same, just with slightly different parts (inside). Before you change the fluids, run the thing around to warm things up. Then when you drain them, look for metal flakes and smell.
