  • 6x6 wheelchair

Happened across this site in an unrelated Google search. Pretty cool.

Seems a 6x6 really is for everyone! All kidding aside, it was really touching to see the video of this machine in action. Thinking about my elderly aunt who was confined to a wheelchair and how she'd just sit at the window and watch the world pass her by. If they only had these back then - boy she'd have been scooting everywhere!

I went up to Mio Michigan with my young cousin many years ago for a riding event hosted by a Grand Rapids Max dealer and one of the many wonderful people I met was a man who was paralyzed from the chest down. Al and his wife had a new, green Max II, which he'd had outfitted with a special high-backed racing-type chair with a 5-point harness to secure him in. He had a rig confabbed up to swivel him from his wheelchair into and out of the Max. He and his wife took their machine all over the place that weekend: trails, mud, you name it, even swimming in the lake! - laughing their heads off and having an absolute blast.

It was very, very cool to see someone who'd normally just sit at home or perhaps mill around a crowded shopping mall instead getting out into the wilderness and roughing it up like a young boy - and sharing some quality time with the wife, to boot! Behind the sticks of that mighty Max he was as tall as any of us. Did my heart good to see such a sight. As long as the machine is kept well-maintained there's no reason a paraplegic could not to utilize one of our true go-anywhere vehicles and get outdoors and play! Just one more thing no quad could ever do.

(Teary-eyed) I watched the video, and I think of my parents, 70 and 80 yrs old, (Both with extreme mobility challenges) and say to myself: "God bless the inventor of that machine!!"
It's all just nuts and bolts.

That was my first thought, too. "It needs some tires with more aggressive tread and then that baby would REALLY go almost anywhere!" I found a couple of other wheelchair mobility outfitters that utilize treads instead of wheels.

This one seems very well thought out:

And now... here's the "Terminator" of wheelchairs!!! LOL
