  • Newbie with a New Toy

    Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and just got a new toy. I purchased a KID 8x8. It is in fairly good shape. It has a 30hp Wisconsin engine with a hydrostatic drive. It came with tracks. I wanted to see what all of you thought of this. I picked it up for $500. Have any of you had experience with these? Did I get a good value? Looking forward to being on here and sharing experiences.

Depending on the overall condition of the KID, you might have gotten a real STEAL. These things are kinda scarce and they always seem to demand top dollar. I've never seen one go for less than $1500. Usually much more.

I'm guessing that the seller... A) didn't know what he had, B) knew what he had but either wasn't desperate for money or wasn't so greedy as to charge top dollar, or C) it needs a more work that it appears.

Whatever the reason, congrats on the purchase! KIDs are supposed to be pretty awesome machines, which figures given their tank-like design and construction. Have fun and post lots of pics!!

Honestly I don;t think the seller really knew what he had. I did some research on here and the web and figured it was a pretty good deal. I tinkered with it last night, cleaned the carb and greased everything, and it runs great. Drove it around for almost an hour and everything seemed to be working fine. The body is a little rough, and I will have to patch one hole if I want it to be amphibious. Overall this is a pretty amazing machine. It feels like driving an army tank. Will post pics soon.

            Luuuuuuukkkkkyyyyy

you can probaly tell by my screen name i have a kid to i bought mine for 900 dollars and been working on getting it running mine has tracks too and the body is also rough but i am extremely jealous that you have already been driving yours i have to replace the starter on mine go to the wanted forum and then look for kid wanted dead or alive i have put some sites on there you can look at and i assum you have found shoson industries. That guy at shoson has manuals and the pretty much all the stuff you need. I just ordered the manuals and the parts to hook up my PTO and put a propeler on it. being i have never drove my kid or any other 6x6 or8x8 tell me more about what it is like to drive it and especailly what it will do in the MUUUD how fast does it really go?
so far ive taken the body off the chasis and cut out all the rust and pressure washed it out and in the process of restoring mine completly so please tell me more about it and if you could video on youtube would be perfect.
Also about the amphibous thing go to youtube and type in hydrostat drive exactly then scroll down a little bit and there is some video of one swimming pretty good but other than that he doesn't show what it can do
8x8 twice as good as 4x4
