  • New Project and Newb question

    Hi,
First i'd like to say great site! I am new to the site and the 6x6 world. I just purchased a swamp fox project and have some questions. It is partially disassembled and would like to replace anything that needs it before assembly. my question is how do you test the wheel bearings to see if they are bad? also, where do you guys buy chains, tires, etc? my chains are rust and the tires have dry rot. Also, any tips or photos of swamp foxes would be great! Pics coming soon! any help is greatly appreciated.

Put the machine up on wood blocks, floor jack etc... take axle try to wiggle them up/down , side to side. then spin axle....any noises, play, replacement time.

          Welcome!

Welcome to the club. I too have a SSF project. I dont have any pics yet but will try to this weekend. Mine is just a rolling tub(ie: no motor or tranny. Looks like you have an Onan in yours. Where are you located? Check for Don or Larry They have had a few. Also may want to check the gallery for pics. I'm finding new things every day!

While the machine is up on blocks, fill it with water to above the bearings. If the bearing leaks water from the inside-out, it needs replaced even if you can't feel play in it.

                brochures

Hey I just got my owners manual for the SSF. I also got a T20 manual and parts list. I bought them frm Richards Relics in New Albany, In. Took about 4 days by priority mail good score for 25$+6$ s+h. there is a link to his website if interested. He has a lot of parts and plenty if knowledge!
