  • 1st step of the SS Fox!

I finally got some space in my garage to begin my endeavor. I was able to completely remove about 10 gallons of compost from it and really inspect the inside . Turns out I have a solid machine! The frame is completely solid and straight. No cracks in the tub. Now for my wishlist: I am going to have to replace

    1. Axle Bearings & Both body plugs are gone
    2. Battery tray
    3. Electrical (Wiring,solenoid, Lights)
    4. Seats need backing and covered
    5. Engine & T-20 (Both gone).
    6. Tires & wheels

Well it is definitely a work in progress/ Restorification project.

Sounds like you have a project but it wil be worth it when your done! You will love it Im sure.
There is an engine posted from a swamp fox in the classified. 16hp ohv tecumseh for $150 I think it was? Check it out if you need an engine. t-20 are a little pricey but keep an eye out on ebay. Should be able to get one for around $4-500. But you know how ebay is. Could be junk. I see them probably about 1 a month or so.
btw, I think I have heard of Bob and Tom talking about that place you live.

          hi ,
Yes its good to see another ssfox owner
As u may have read my posts my ssfox is in need of critical care like yours ha ha ha
Similar to yours although my machine is operational ,my 6x6 has suffered badly from misguided repairs
The advantage u have is i assume the purchase price was low so u can install some new parts and have not over spent the $$ depending on budget of course

What features do u like about the ssfox for me
          body size
          tire size
fibreglass body can be repaired to look new
In comparison to some of the other second hand 6x6 eg argos i looked at this machine is in way better condition
The worst body i looked at was a 8x8 argo with the top cut in half and many holes drilled thru it agh agh agh

          Good luck with it .
Any info we can trade would be appreciated

Actually the Fox was the first 6x6 I ever saw. That was after I had already bought it. I only gave $50 for it so Yeah I do have some room in my budget. But my Better half thinks I can just pick up an old riding mower for $50 And I will be set. I was actually hoping to get me a work & play toy for $1000! But then I called R.R for a T-20 & was brought to reality. $1295 for a rebuild and $1925 for a new one from Recreative.

Don't rule out doing a T20 rebuild by yourself. It's really fairly easy and we have a step-by-step how-to article on it if you get stuck. Now the parts are still not cheap but you should be able to come out cheaper than $1300 depending on how many bands and drums you need.

I have not ruled that out. I read the how to and after that I think I can do a rebuild myself. It was really enlightening. I just have to find a good candidate.

Got some parts for the SSF today.

I went and confiscated a 16 horse Tec OH160 & unknown opposed B&S. Believed to be
a 16Hp as well. Has no shroud on it. Can't find any numbers on it either. I think I'm gonna
go w/ the original setup first. So I will have an idea on how the Super Swamp Fox was designed to perform. Then I'll swap in the Briggs. It came from an airplane so I guess It should put out more than the Tec. With the two I should be fine to save for a Big Block or
                  a Bandolero.

Sounds nice. Can't wait to see what comes of it. From what I hear the SS Fox is supposed to swim like a fish. Would love to see one in person one of these days.

Next year I plan on attending the gatherings. I believe in NE Ohio? Probably the closest. Still searching for the Ever Elusive
T-20. But i think I've picked up a trail. Will see how it pans out.

Hope one comes up for you. That'd be great if you could join us at Ashabula......it's just north of Cleveland and it is one of the best 6x6 events I've ever been to, you'd have a blast!
