  • Newby with a Scrambler

I've got my first AATV, a scrambler of unknown year, a four seater with the reverse motor. The body is in great shape and has the rollbar and cargo rack on the back. I bought it off of Craigslist in Austin, I'm in Tennessee. The drivetrain was worse than I wanted. In fact, all the chains, sprockets, bearings, axles, everything, was toast. Most bolts holding things to the floor had to be cut/grinded off. So I'll be hitting up everybody up for stuff. I don't know how to post pics so check it out in my gallery. I'll have ALOT of Q's. Other than 6x6's on trailers going down the road, I have seen only one 6wheeler. Now the Q's begin.

1)How hard would it be to put a transmission with reverse (T-20?) into it? I'm good with a welder and basic fab'ing.
    2) Are the steering, turning, and brake hydrolic cylinders rebuildable?

    Thanks in advance

You need to talk to LarryW. He is normally on here everyday but has not been on since the 17th. He knows all things scrambler!!!
He also has some spare parts he might part with. If you sent him a private message I'm sure he would respond back.

Larry W. is a Scrambler whiz and will be able to help you out. You will also want to speak with 6x6World member Jerseybigfoot or Joe M. Both of those guys built very nice Scramblers with T-20's in them.

Take a look at Joe M's Scrambler build here:

        Hey Brant,
The scrambler drive units are pretty tricky with some faults in them and seems they are swapped out more common then any other amphib. I have seen them with baker hills, t-20 and Jerseybigfoots argo trans. Main problem is no reverse, then old machines clutch/brake material falls off, then all parts are pressed on. ... Fabbing a new one in is pretty simple with some skill but sounds like you can handle that.

All the parts are rebuildable but finding the right seals are the tough part.

Keep us updated on that machine. I look forward to watching it run.
