  • SPD Minicub

Even most of you die-hard AATVers are at least a little familiar with the SPD Tricart. Some of you are aware of the tamer Tricub, but how many of you have ever heard of the Minicub? I have now completed my SPD trike trifecta with a Minicub added to my fleet. The Minicub was kind of a low-cost Tricub. I think it retailed for around $375 in 1972. I understand that they weren’t launched until near the demise of SPD, so production volume was very low. This one is in pretty decent shape and mostly complete, except no engine. When mrs. wildman finds out, I'll probably have to sleep with it.

A trio of tricarts. Very cool. Good luck with your wife. That seat looks comfortable so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The trio captured now in one photo. Tricart X5 would have been in there too, except it's not rolling right now.

those are sweet. I had no idea that they made a mini. I passed up buying one of those for 50 bucks because I thought that it was homemade. now I'm kicking myself for not buying it. I guess you live and learn

That's a really cool fleet! I love these things, is it possible that you might be bringing them to Ashtabula to show?

You can have your own SPD race pretty soon! Thanks for the group shot. That is too cool.

I turned my Minicub from a collection of loose parts into less loose parts and something that rolls. I probably won't have the body and seat done until spring, but I should have the engine and all mechanicals ready by then.

                      Engine complete and installed now.

Looking for body mount isolators... basically solid rubber "donut" 1½" OD x ½" thick w/hole for 5/16" bolt. I checked McMaster-Carr and found similar engine isolators with the threaded inserts. So far I didn't find any plain "donuts", but they have some tubular material (1½" OD w/3/8" hole) that I could probably use if I can figure out a way to cleanly slice off ½" lengths. Any help appreciated.

                        Sharp Ride!

Looking Good Wildman. Your usual great restoration job.

Noting to offer on the isolators, but I'll look around.

Don't know how soft they would be or even the size, but back in high school a buddy of mine used hockey pucks to put a body lift on his old ford. At the time i think the pucks cost him $1.50 each. Much cheaper than skyjacker wanted for their kit.

Getting closer... still need to work out some issues with throttle and brake cables, rub out paint and install decals. Slowly, but surely...
