  • New Kid on the block

Hello I'm George, 39 from Texas. I've had this L.T.V. KID with my dad since '83 or '84. My dad got it from one of his friends who bought it new. It's been in the weather for awhile now in another location. It will be on a list of restoration projects I have. A shop/shed is on the top of the list to get things out of the weather. I'll have a ton of questions once I get started, esp sources for new/used parts. One question I have is who rebuilds the Vickers hydrolic pumps.
Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody and enjoying my stay.

I've been reading over the posts and looking at all the pictures. We've done work on it before, plus I'm a certified machinist so that should be helpful. We had a shop manual for it, but since hurricane Ike we can't recall seeing it.
      I sent an email.

Does anybody know how many of these are still around, or know how many were produced? Other than these on this site, I've never seen another one.

Glad to have you George.....nice project to fix up. You need to post up your progress as you fix the old girl up. Good luck with the machine and hope to see you around on the site.

I like the old cars in the background too.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Thanks for all the posts. Once I get into the restoration, I'll post my before pictures and the progress as it goes along. I'll also send emails and post new questions as I have them.

I love cars, esp. old ones. I've got some of them for sale too.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know the biggest or most powerful engine that can be fitted to one of these?

I went yesturday and got my 2nd KID. I bought the one Russell had with the Perkins Diesel. I plan to combine the best parts of the 2 to make one nice fully loaded machine.

Does anyone here have any experiance with the diesel powered K.I.D.? Also did they make only 30 of them or was it more than that?

I think I remember reading that there were 100 diesel KIDs and 1000 gas powered KIDs. You can search the site for KID and you can read the past threads on them where that was discussed to be sure.
