  • My Ramco Retriever

I recently purchased a highly-modified Ramco Retriever. It does not have the stock engine, but a water-cooled Honda CBR-600 100hp engine in it. Here are a few pictures of it. Could anyone tell me anything about these? They seem to be very rare. What is the value of one of these?

Yes, I have driven it! It had been sitting a few years, but now it runs flawlessly. And yes it flies! It does a wheelie while it's taking off! The acceleration is amazing. It has quite a few gears too. There's a handle with the six gears the motorcycle has, plus the gears it had stock. So you have six variations of every gear it had stock. You can go so slow it crawls, yet so fast. I have gone over 48mph with it, but it would go a lot faster than that if you gave it the throttle. The previous owner said he went 90mph in it. Surprisingly, it still floats with the big motor. But it's slow and hard to handle in the water. I might mount an electric trolling motor on the back!

You don't need a trolling motor, if you hit the water at those speeds you can just skim across.

Welcome to the site. There are a few Ramco owners here on the site and even the guy that helped start the company. His name on the site is moses and he has a lot of Ramco literature and pictures in his gallery: Ramco Retriever Gallery

If you search the gallery for "ramco" you will see a lot of the member's pictures too. Here's a couple:

Thanks for the link! That's some interesting information. So it did have a propeller when it was new!

I tried what you said about skimming across the water, and it almost worked! I hit the water at 55mph, and I made it about twenty feet until it slowed to a crawl. It was fun though!

I wasn't able to get the video because I haven't fixed it yet. Unfortunately, my front axle is bent in. The axle is stationary, and the sprocket spins on it. It's causing the chain to derail because the sprockets aren't lined up due to the axle being bent. Any suggestions on on this?

You can bend your axle back into shape. I'm not sure on the sprocket though as I have never seen a Ramco. How is it typically held onto the axle?

That's a pretty cool machine. Maybe you can race it with us next year in Ohio.

                      Can't wait for the video!

check and make sure the bearing was bored out straight, my chain was popping off and i figured it was because of the little bend on the axle but it was because that stupid bearing inside the sprocket. i need to do a little fiberglass repair on mine now, its a sinker now cause of some crackage and a stability bar runnin side to side on the frame got ripped off on some huge rocks. there fun little rigs though, they'll go anywhere. i got a question about your brakes though, do you have breaks? i only have the option to turn right or left theres no brake for both sides. i seen in your pic theres a brake lever on the steering rod and i didn't know if it was some sorta dual break or a clutch. and have you bought brakes for the thing, ive been making my own pads cause i dont know where to get the right break pads. everybody looks really dumb when i bring the break ring things to them. where can they be found?

don't sell it, if you do i want it. i think there was only a hundred or at most two hundred of them made and there from like 19 64 or something. i think the company was from kent washington, i live like 10 miles from there. i need a new propeller and a transfer case for the propeller too but it would be awesome to have a stock one and a modified one. so yeah if you ever sell it im interested if the distance isn't too far.
