Well thanks for the help Mike but this isn't the response I was expecting just one response. i thought there would be more info out there than that. well lets try something different this roughrider dosent have revers so no transmission. so should i keep it original or should i modifie it with a bigger motor and put in a transmission i mean is it worth anything like it is or should i make it more usable to meet my taste and needs. to be honest no revers is not a good idea as for as i can see. I had a thought about that like taking the tranny that goes to my argo and put in in the McKee and getting a better one for the argo. any comments would be welcome as i am new to these machines in general so im not sure if this machine is worth something like it is know. dont get me wrong im not thinking im going to get rich off this machine but it is in really good shape for a 70's model and if leaving it original would be a good idea or not thats all. thanks guys and gals

I think the lack of responses stems from how rare it is. There just aren't many people with McKee Roughriders out there in the 6x6 World. You could probably teach most of us more about it than people could tell you.

Just so I make sure I'm understanding your last post correctly, does it have the stock transmission in it right now or none at all. Also is there anything wrong with it other than the lack of a reverse? Is it all stock or can you tell if something has been replaced?

You know how to become a millionaire restoring and selling AATV's???????????????

          Start out as a billionaire

In other words, don't plan on restoring an AATV for the perpose of making a profit on it... if the stars align and you break even on what u spend on parts then you are coming out ahead.
I refer to these as Enthusiast rather than collectible vehicle and Hobby. You restore it for the personal enjoyment and satisfaction of doing it. Yes you may get lucky and find a wealthy and willing buyer for an original unit but don't bet on it...... Probably better off playing the lottery.

Its probably an early design like the Jiger which had no reverse gear either and ran two engines. one for each side and thus controling each engine individually was how u steered... If you really want to do an original machine, Gower, the inventor of the Jiger is credited as the Father of the ATV.... check out some of the articles section for more info.
With the rarity you would probably have trouble getting it to 100% original....

I would go for making it fit your needs and usage. the more useable it is, you would probably be able to get more for it... folks that want to use their AATV's would most likely want a machine they can get replacement parts for... 4 stroke engine, T20 trans etc
          s
You should have no trouble getting all the parts you need for the JLO motor..... not as reliable as a 4 stroke but power to weight ratio of 2 strokes rock!!

Well like i said i dident think i was going to get rich i was just wondering if it would be worth more as it is. so that answers that. and Mike it has no transmission at all. im going to start hopelfuly this fall rebuilding my argo and i thought i would put the trans out of it in the McKee and get a T-20 for the argo because you guys keep saying good things about them. and i finally got to drive around the back yard with it today and boy does the power of this motor suck so im going to look into a four stroke it has no bottom end power and thats where i need it most. O it also sheard a axel pin lol. well thanks for the input guys ill keep you posted on the up grades.
