  • Noob with a TriCub

I will do an intro after I do this.
So I was driving to work today and saw this gem. After calling the owner I found out its a 1971 Sperry Rand TriCub. I googled it and came up with slim results. I didnt see one like this though. It has a 8hp briggs with electric start. Needless to say i went back at lunch and bought it. I pulled the body off and pulled the head off because it was low on compression. The cylinder was perfect but the valves had carbon build up under them. Needs some cables replaced and re wired but I hope to be doing crazy wheelies by the weekend.

Does anyone know how rare these things are and how many they made?

Congratulations on the Cub, and welcome to the forum. That one looks like it's in pretty good shape and fairly complete- shouldn't be too bad of a rebuild. I'm not sure how many were made, but Sperry/Rand built them along with the Tricart and the Wedge. You do find them for sale every once in a while, but not all that often. Let us know how it progresses.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

    (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

Welcome fellow Tricubber! That one looks like a pretty nice one to me. Uncut body, handlebar, orig. 8 hp Briggs, clutch, even tires holding air... most of the hard stuff to find looks like it's there. The elec start Tricub is fairly rare. I've never been able to get real good production volume estimate for any SPD vehicle. I know at one point they were making 50-60 Tricarts per day. My Tricub is 5hp and I have a buddy currenlty restoring an 8hp Tricub. Your seat cushion looks like it may be from Minicub, not Tricub.

I have Tricub parts/owners book in pdf format... PM me with your email, if interested.

Keep us posted on your progress. Would love to see more photos.

I have already torn it all apart and started rebuilding the engine. Should get it sand blasted this week. Thanks for all the info.
