  • terra tiger project started as a kid.

I have a terra tiger my dad bought for us as a kid. I finished it enough to ride it at the age of 12 after my folks split up. I crashed it when my throttle stuck and never finished putting it back together. I am 26 with 2.5 kids. And. I would like to get started on it. My question is this. I know it needs a drive brake for one side... it would not lock the one side and I would like to put all newbearings in the outer axle flanges. I think the inner is a bushing? I would like all of this fresh but is it available?. And be able to steer it into those wicked donuts in either direction. An aside is there a better roller chain guide available cheap? From what I read here I think it is a model 18 because it does have bracing angle on the floor. Thanks for the input in advance, I am looking forward to reviving the old beast.

I am locatged in vermilion,Ohio. Lowest part of the shore line on lake erie. I saw that the bearings were available...what about those drive 'cones'? I assume that is what that release/brake assy is call. Mine would release release that drive side but it would not lock the side regardless of adjustment. I'm sure it was just worn out. How much did your axles cost you? Thanks a lot for the response.

Ok i found the bearings, I still wonder about the drive clutch, cone, whatever it is called. I will definitely need some help gettting the driveshafts back in as it has been out for years. The reverse is very interesting.

They (sometime called cone clutches, steering clutches, or clutch packs) are pricey. Though I took mine to a local brake and clutch shop and had them re-lined for $60 for both. There is an easy way and a hard way to get them in. Feel free to call me and I can walk you though it.

Here is a template if you wanted to reline them yourself.

Ok I apreciate the offer and when i get there will definitely take you up on that. I am so glad i found this sight. what do you use to adhere the lining, and what is the lining material made out of? Has anyone upgraded the brakes to hydraulic? i though about using a setup like a dirtbike front brake, reservoir on the bars.

The lining is just standard cluth material. I have heard that linoleum adhesive works best...but not better than the bonding agents that the brake shop will use to bake them on in an oven or kiln. As long as you are there (if you find a shop) have them cut you a set of brake pucks and steering brakes (these are equally as important for turning and need very accurate adjustment. I am unaware of anyone putting hydraulics in a Terra Tiger. I think the general consensus is that the Terra Tigers are not one of the higher end machines so not many stick much investment in them....the fact that they don't have reverse is a huge drawback.
