  • Tracks on a Terra Tiger?

Question: I have outfitted my Terra Tiger with upgraded 5 bolt axles and 22x11Goodyear Rawhide III's. Can this machine be fitted with standard tracks like would come on a Max II?

If so, is it advisable? The Terra Tiger is powered by steering clutches rather than a T-20 transmission....and no reverse. Will the tracks stress the hell out of the machine and drive train?

I never saw a Terra Tiger with tracks, but judging by the vulnerability of the cone clutches I wouldn't recommend it.......it's probably just best to stick with the Rawhide III's.

I had a Terra tiger years ago. The steering clutches were a perpetual issue. I would not attempt this. The lack of a reverse very much limited practicality. You would be better off with a Max, Argo or Hustler, then adding tracks. The Terra Tiger was ok for its time, but the other manufacturers quickly out distanced the Tiger in technology. A good used Hustler 980 can be had for $3-4K. They were designed for tracks. If I were you thats what I'd look for. Meanwhile 22x11's are a pretty good sized tire for your machine. You could always switch out to a T20 drive system, but that would require a great amount of fabrication and mechanical skill, and a lot of time.

There have been a couple people that have done that.......also, 6x6world member Mark M. actually fabricated his own transmission for his Terra Tiger, with reverse I believe. It had a 23 HP Vanguard with 22" Rawhide III's and it was quite the capable trail machine.

... and JerseyBigfoot and JoeM have both put T-20s in their Scramblers. I know it's a lot different with a 'Tiger, but you could always give it a shot. It's only metal.
