  • I am being given a 1962 Starcraft 6x6 and need some info.

I am getting a '62 Starcraft 6x6 delivered to my house this weekend for free out of my father in law's barn. The engine was overhauled and carburetor was replaced then the 6x6 was driven only about five times before getting parked. It has been sitting for almost ten years, but is in great shape and has a new in box canvas cover. Some questions I have are:

    Is this thing rare?
    Is it worth fixing up?
How much is something like this worth restored or in it's present condition?
I would also like to know any info anyone has on the history of this thing or just general information.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I will post pics when I get a chance

Hi lestep, welcome to the site and congratulations on your Starcraft. They are pretty rare. You see them pop up every now and then for sale but not too often. Unless it is just a rust bucket cracked into pieces it should be worth fixing up. I guess that ultimately depends on what you want to do with it. When you get it, post some pictures and let's see what kind of condition it is in. There is a little information on the site about them if you will use the search. A few members own one and there are several pictures in the gallery.

Here are a few I got from the search:

Thanks Mike. Body is in great shape, just needs a bath. All lights, electric start and reverse worked when parked. I want to get it running and have fun with it. Oh, he also has the original owner's manual with it. I'm excited to get it I have always wanted one.

In that case, it sounds like it is in really good shape. I love the way those Starcrafts look. That should be a fun 6x6. Some of the other Starcraft owners may be able to help you more than I can. I still want to see pictures when you get it. What color is it?

It is yellow. The plan is to get it dropped off this weekend. I just have to get my garage cleaned up enough to fit it in there. When he drops it off I will take pictures, but it will be dirty...it is too cold in northern Indiana to wash it right now. I'll just get pictures of the outside this weekend and keep posting more as I get it more and more torn down.

            Awesome!

            Congratulations les....

Be sure to keep us posted on your progress. The Starcraft is a very cool looking machine, and they're pretty hard to come by. This week will be warm! Get her washed up and get some pictures posted. We love projects......

                Mike -

In the picture of the yellow Starcraft with the roll cage, it looks like something mounted to the top of the body. Is that some sort of instrument cluster pod or something??? Looks like a way-cool special feature for racing 6x6es!!!
