well its in the shop and we are taking it apart just need to find an engine and figure out what type of reverse to install

you may want to fit an ATV trans similar to a polaris. They often have hi,low, ans reverse.

OK, glad I'm not the only one. When my tranny took a dump a week after being laid off I did this too. Large Pontiac and did mess up and got to push it out of a spot, too bad cause it still ran like new.
Tim. The starter motor Idea could work if geared enough. A tranny swap has been done in different machines but a little more pricey. An ATV engine/tranny takes out the CVT if it's not from an automatic ATV, so may not work as good as you'll want. I guess the Mckee isn't a T-20 machine.

I added reverse by using a car flywheel and starter......worked well enough to back it off a trailer, but I doubt it would help if stuck in mud.

Some new snowmobile motors had reverse which is actually the motor running backwards. Those would work if they fit. Most if not all sleds today are huge and liquid cooled so you would have to fab a radiator in it.
As far as not having reverse you just get use to it. You drive it up the ramp on trailer and push it off. If you need to back up you just have to get out and push it or push the front end over some to go around. It sounds bad but really when you drive it enough you will get use to knowing and it wont really become an issue so much. Heck I drove a little car that way for months when I was in school. Just park it where you dont need to back up, lol.

If you have the fabricating skill or knows someone who does it could be added. You would need to have the engine go to a fnr gearbox with a driven cvt pulley on it. The other side of the gearbox would be a sprocket and then take the driven pulley off the main shaft and replace that with another sprocket. Then with the sprockets you can play around with your gearing to achieve more low end power or higher top speed. That would be pretty cool. Depending on what you get for a gearbox, you probably will have to relocate the engine. For a fnr gear box you could steal one from a polaris atv or at least one model(probably others) older sled had a gearbox for reverse or.....
If you enjoy modifying stuff then it would be cool but you might be better off finding something with a factory reverse. Max,argo, most attex, hustler and amphicat to name a few.
