  • How tight should steering springs be??

I just reassembled my scrambler drivetrain.Should the driven disk with the sprocket be super tight against the cluth plate?I had to back the adjusting nuts all the way back on the threaded rod that fits inside the spring inside the steering tube and I dont know how tight it should be.Originally the nut was halfway down the rod and the spring tension was extremely tight. However everything was destroyed when I purchased it and I dont want to mess anything up.Thanks in advance

On my two Scramblers the base of the nut is flush with the end of the spring tube. Over tightening the spring may bend the 2 bolt bearing flange that holds the outboard driven disk bearing.

When I first put mine together I had them to tight. It was physically kinda hard to turn the wheel. I loosened them up quit a bit and they still grabbed good and turned a lot easier too. Best bet is probably just play around with it to you get where it is easy to turn the wheel but the clutches don't slip at all.
