  • I just got a terra tiger

I paid $200 I think I did OK ??? I figure I can cut my losses at any time and sell it for $200

Engine is MISSING. Couple of chains are destroyed. A couple tires might not hold air. Body is a little "rough" I am not sure how the brakes work, so that might be missing too.

Other than that, I think its all there.

So I didnt pay a lot, I am not plannign a full restoration, just want to slap it together CHEAP, and have some fun with it.

I THINK I want to go w a 4 stoke engine. I figure I need a 10-20 HP side shaft engine, nothing smaller, nothing bigger. A clutch set up for the crankshaft, and make my own motor mount.

Anybody know where to get a clutch? what to get ? ect?

I doubt anybody sells engine mounts right? Gotta custom fab something?

How do the brakes work on these thing?

Any helpfull links to these things?

Thanks guys!! I will try to take pictures tommorow.

$200 is a good deal, but if you do it on the cheap, that is what you will end up. Believe me, mine were money pits. I was partial to them because I am/was and Allis Chalmers collector. The engineering is inferior to nearly every other model. If you must go cheap, I would say go cheap on the engines and tires - both are easily replaceable and do not necessarily lead to other catastrophic failures. Here are the things I would make darn sure you have dialed in before you head out into the wilderness.

    1. Make sure the shear pins are in and in TIGHT!
    2. Make sure the sprockets have plenty of life in them, you don't want them slipping or teeth falling off of them.
    3. Buy good chain, especially with the extra low end torque from a 4 stroke.
    4. If your model TT does not have the frame braces on the belly, then fab something up. You do NOY want the fiberglass belly or sides flexing on you.

I am sure I am missing something. Steering brakes are important, but an actual brake is not that critical...just try pushing one of these effers for a block and you will know what I am talking about...they don't freewheel unless the chains snap ( all 8 of them). Below is the thread I started a few years ago now. I still have not finished a single one, but I plan to have one done this summer at least.
