  • scrambler traction question

I broke down and bought 2 new carlisle 22x11x8 at101 tires today at 69.00 a piece at a local tractor dealer.I installed them on the middle axle and left the outer tires with the older balloon tires.I measured the circumference of the tires and made sure that my new tires had a slightly larger circumference-maybe 2 inches more .The scrambler steers great but my wife kept telling me the front tires are spinning like crazy.I wathched my wife drive the scrambler and sure as heck when giving it gas the front tires are spinning and the rear axle and center axle tires dont even move until you hammer the throttle.I have the kind of axle shafts with torque springs attached inside the tub. I drove it around the yard with the floor cover off and everything is fine. How can the front axle spin and the center and rear axles turn at a different speed when everything is connected with chains? There are no keyways or setscrews on the scrambler all sprockets are welded to the shafts. The front wheels are slightly off the ground while driving due to the heavy 16hp engine and winch and rack at the rear of the scrambler.Maybe the springs on the axles act as a limited slip??Maybe someone can explain this because I cant see myself on driving the trails this way.

Scrambler eliminated the axle torque clutches in the early 70's. Your axle clutch are slipping. You may want to bolt the axle plate to the sprockets.
