To all of the Super Swamp Fox owners out there. How many teeth are on the sprockets that are on the middle axle, (the ones that to go the T-20)? Also, how many teeth are on the sprockets that are on the front and rear axles? I'm going to be making some up and I needed to know since mine didn't have sprockets. Thanks everyone!

I have the sprockets at home, so I can get you the numbers tonight if anyone else doesn't chime in. Are you sticking with the sprocket tubes for the center axles, or are you going to go a different route. The sprockets are pretty much next on my list after I revamp my freshly-done tranny mount (doh...)
Txt me tonight if I forget to get you the numbers.... you know my memory.sigpic

HI,
Swamp fox has 26 teeth on the axle ends
T20 corresponding axle sprocket 28 thru 36 teeth
Axle end sprockets can be 24 teeth [reduces diameter of sprocket if u have clearance issues ]
Recreatives used 24 teeth on the axle ends and then went to 26 teeth . No explanation but as u would expect the larger sprocket will carry 1-3 more hp [according to sprocket maker ] and also wear out a little slower
Recreatives t20 axle sprocket 32--34 teeth
Allthe advice from recreatives was irrespective of tire size
I personally have fitted a 28 tooth t20 axle sprocket to my SSF
Remember if u have a high reving engine a 34 thru 40 tooth may be needed
If u have a very large secondary eg 770 driven [this promotes pulling or low geared etc ]
this also influences your choice

I just wanted to throw in that my 'Fox is running the 30-tooth primary on the center axles with 26 tooth units driving the fronts/rears. Are you sticking with stock gearing JP? I don't know what I'll do, but there's room to bump up a few teeth on the primary sprockets if you want to pull heavier quads out. For the lighter quads, we may be able to stick with the 30s.
I was thinking that I may want to slow mine down a bit, but 30/26 isn't a whole lot slower than a Max IV with 26s. The Kubota is probably about a 3,000 rpm engine, and I'm not worried about top speed that much. Nobody should be driving a hot tub that fast, regardless. Speaking of tires, what tires do you plan on running on the pig?sigpic

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'll be sticking with a stock size driven clutch and I was able to get some new old stock, "weld to your own tubes" 26 tooth sprockets really cheap. I think I'll probably go with the stock 30 tooth gearing since the new 23HP Kohler Command V-twin I have is claimed to make a little under 40lbs/ft of torque....although 32 might be an option as long as it doesn't kill the top end speed too bad.
What kind of top speeds are you guys seeing with stock Swamp Fox gearing? Like Hydromike said, I don't think too high of speed is needed for a big rig like the 'Fox. As for tires, I scored a set of 26x12x12 Titan Tru Power (just like the Goodyear Super Terra Grips) that came off a 2001 Max IV on Recreatives K-lock wheels. I'm going to keep the machine stock looking on the outside with only a few modern updates like LED lights, and the K-lock wheels. Other than that it'll look just like a stock, brown Super Swamp Fox."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

I ended up getting a pair of G&G 36 tooth sprockets for coming off the T-20 so I think, as long as they fit in the tub, I'll stick with them. I have the Kohler Command 23HP with the larger Comet 1190 clutch. It's a slightly larger diameter than the 780 drive clutch so I'll make up a little top end speed there. I'll be using the stock Comet driven clutch with a red clutch spring and it'll have 26x12x12 Vampire tires. My Hustler 980 has 40 tooth primary sprocket and I'm very happy with the all around performance of it, so I think the gearing on the 'Fox should work out well for me."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

Hi Jpswift1,
First gear is when the belt is on the outside of the secondary and the inner most on the drive .
The larger the secondary the lower the ""1St gear ""
The 1190 secondary is equivilant in diameter as a 770 secondary [both being bigger than a 780 secondary ]
The larger diameter 770/1190 has the lowest 1st gear and the slowest top speed also .
compared to the 780 and 790 setups .
Approx calculations results are that a ,the same top speed of a 770 set up to a 780 setup is
eg 770 -32 teeth on t20
-780-34 teeth on t20
The helix or ramp angle on the secondary is very important
I changed mine to whatever the current max are using with the red spring [approx. 28 degree ?]
I originally had a 41 degree ramp very quick acceleration but could not climb a 45 degree hill from a stationary start . Changed out as I mentioned

Just to add my two cents. My ssf has all stock gearing and clutches
the fisrt engine was a 18 hp briggs vanguard and it performed well
now i have a 50 hp geo motor that spins 5500 rpm
lots of power and top speed
i think my rpm ratio to wheel speed is off . Engine speed high compaired to wheel speed
its stupid fast and has lots of climbing power so i problably wont change any sprockets
good luck with your machine
