  • New comer with a Amphicat

Hello everyone. I'm new to all of this. I've always wanted to own a 6x6 an I found one for very cheap it's a 1970 amphicat. I have it all apart for now rebuilding it. Any tips on plastic repair. Also does anyone have some pics of the seat. My set was gone. I see some hindges but the rest was all open.

Congrats on your new amphicat. I would search the gallery for pictures. If you search around on the forum you will find different abs plastic repair techniques. Either melting the abs scraps with acetone, fiberglass repairing over the plastic or using different epoxies.

Thanks. I have been looking at all the pics I can find in here an on Richards relics just no good pic of what I'm looking for. I thought about using fiber glass I just didnt know if it would stick to the plastic. I've seen a few post about this acetone plastic mix just nothing specific on how it's made.

Maybe this will help you. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/conte...bious-atv.html

As far as making the abs goop, you make abs chips out of a scrap piece. Put it in a container and fill it with acetone. When I had ground abs chips I filled until it just came up to the chips. That is what started it all. After that I would just dump a little acetone in as needed. I have added chunks(not chips) of abs too when I wanted more. Just let is sit over night and it melts to a goop. You wipe it on the cracks and it hardens up as the acetone evaporates. The hard part is getting it to dry right. The outside wants to dry first. That seals in air pockets in the plastic and it never gets strong. Fiberglass sticks real good on clean abs. I would roughen it up some. I have never used it but I have pryed the stuff off. Sometimes it easy, others its stuck. It just depends on how clean the surface was and if it was smooth or not I think.
