  • Plastic repair. ie holes

Hello everyone. I am new to this an I recently got my hands on a Amphicat I have it all apart an have been going over everything. Only thing left is a fairly large hole in the bottom. I've read a ton of tips on here an finally got the "plastic slurry" thing right but I don't think it's gonna work on a hole this large. Ive thought if using fiberglass but worry about it cracking. Any ideas?

Find a large piece of abs and cut it, and the hole to fit each other. You can then goo or weld the piece in place.

Drew has patched gaping holes in his racer with the method he described, and it looks great. On top of his suggestion, you could really bolster up the underside of the 'Cat by adding a polyethylene skid plate, which you can form (quite easily on a 'Cat, I would imagine) to the bottom of the machine and rivet in place. It does wonders for the machine, and is a pretty good insurance policy when you go bouncing off obstacles and sliding over sharp pointy things.

I'm just finishing up a skid plate on my Hustler 980, and I'm pretty excited to test it out this Fall Busco ride...

I've thought if that too. I just don't know where I can find a sheet that big. Is there any special place or just anywhere?

It sounds silly, but check out a plastics supplier locally (internet, yellow pages) and give them a call to see what they get for a sheet. Typically, they offer a lot of different sizes, and you could absolutely get away with a 4x8 sheet, with lots left over. I've made them with 1/4" polyethylene, 1/4" UHMW polyethylene, and currently (for the 980) I'm working with 3/16" poly. The 3/16" is really easy to work with, but I forgot where it was manufactured.
