  • Amphicat 4 stroke conversion

Ok guys. I've been rebuilding/riding an amphicat with the ODG trans. I also have an amphicat with the T10. I really don't like how the ODG trans performs even after a ton of adjustments. It doesn't turn like I want. The Amphicat I have with the T10, the body is shot so the plan is to switch frames an go with a 4 stroke. After inspecting the trans set up, I found the set up is made to spin the opposite way than that of a normal 4 stroke anyone ever done swap? My next question is with the rerverse to engage the reverse in a T10 your supposed to hold down the loop correct? But when I do I can't turn the trans. I am doing all of this by hand so maybe I dont have to the strength(which I doubt) or is something wrong?

Are you sure it spins backwards? Looks like the motor is just in backward compared to other 6x6's. When looking at the pto side of the engine does it spin counter clockwise?

Yeah the trans spins that way to go forward. It had a 440 kaw in it an they put it in backwards. With carb facing the rear of the machine. It seems the clutch pulls from the bottom. I guess I could just go with another 2 stroke. An then figure out what to do with the muffler

I was looking around for images in google and found one with no details but appear to have a 4 stroke china engine in it. Other ones I looked at looked like they had a normal rotating motor in it but backwards compared to other atvs. I think the cranks still spins the same direction. Just have to put the 4 stroke in with the pto on the right side of the machine like they did.

In the one with the ODG type trans it drives on the right hand side. The T10 drives from the left. Idk if I can rig it up some how. Or just turn the motor around.

So I set an old go kart motor on the frame an its all the same rotation. Just weird it seems to push the belt in stead of pulling it as a snowmobile set up would go.

Well thats good. Now you just need to find a motor. I would say 13hp or more but an 8hp motor would work. I had an 8hp tecumseh in Little Larrys st300 and it did quit well actually. An amphicat and st300 are pretty much the same as far as weight would go. Wasnt a speed demon but did have the power to go anywhere the balloon tires would take it.
