Hi everyone I recently bought an old swamp fox from a cousin, this is my first 6x6. It has a 16 horse tecumseh and a roll cage. Two swamp witch tires on the rear and the other four are some rawhides I believe. Anyways I've been reading up on them and thinking of things to do to it, my first question here on the forum is what is the difference between a Swamp fox and a Super Swamp Fox?

Hello from another proud Swamp Fox owner and welcome to the site! I'm very excited to hear about another member with a Swamp Fox. These are one of the biggest and one of the best and most capable AATVs ever built. Can you post some pictures of it? We'd love to see them. Here's a website that was put together by the man that owner of Royco Inc/Swamp Fox, Jerry Atkinson with the answers to many questions about the history of the Swamp Fox. From what I gather, the standard Swamp Fox originally had a 12HP Tecumseh and 21" tires. The Super Swamp Fox came with an OH160 Tecumseh 16HP and the lower body was reinforced with plywood on the bottom and front sandwiched between the fiberglass.

Wow you got me even more excited now, since I have the 16hp tecumseh I wonder if it's the Super Swamp fox. I can gladly post some pics since I took many today while cleaning all the mud off of it and getting all the leaves and mud out of the inside. The previous owner (my older cousin) didn't take very good care of it IMO. Unfortunatly I need to order another belt for it. It was dry rotted and my boss and I went to play with it in his pond and I fried the belt in the shallow end.

That looks like a pretty nice machine! You have the Super Swamp Fox because it has the 26" tires. Is that green color under the black paint the original color? If so, that's the only green Super Swamp Fox I ever saw......it must not have been to common of a color. It would be a good idea to strip that black paint off and bring it back to the original color and perform any maintenance that's been neglected and you'll have a nice reliable machine.......it'll also bring a higher resale value as well. Thanks for posting the pics! It's great to see another Super Swamp Fox!
And yes, it'd be a great idea to replace that belt.......it looks like you REALLY fried it! haha."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

Thanks alot guys! Yeah it does look like the original color was green, and I do plan on painting it green, just not that shade. For some reason I really want to paint it army green and make it look like an old army jeep or tank. I also plan to pull all the tires off the rims and have the rims sandblasted before painting them flat black. Need to clean up the wiring abit. Mount the headlights the proper way instead of with the silicone that's holding them in right now. I'm gonna order the belt so I can at least start playing with it and figure out what other things I want to do or need to do to it. The gears and chains are in great shape though so thats a plus.Super Swamp Fox currently under construction........

Hello renegade83, welcome to the forum. I am a S.S.F. owner as well. Nice machine, green will be a great color, thats the first I've ever seen in green. Judging by your hood assembly, I think your machine is from 1982-1986 vintage, and its definately a Super Swamp Fox. They are extremely well built machines, and you will really enjoy it.
Speaking of the color, now I've seen one green, one yellow, and about a dozen brown ones.

Thanks Noel, I was curious as to what era it came from, my cousin said he thought it was from the mid-late 70s. I've been trying to find as much info on this thing as possible, but it's definitly taking time. I'm also planning on setting it up with twin shifters in the next 2-3 months. Looks fun and useful.Super Swamp Fox currently under construction........

My headlights were held in on mine with some small screws and silicone as well. I think that's actually how they did it from the factory. Some of the later model Super Swamp Foxes with the dashboard and front fender/hood area that was slightly raised up, used rubber grommets, like the Max II's with round headlights had, to hold them in. This is a much better way to do it, and if I can make those work on my machine, I'm going to go that route. You could probably get the serial number off the Tecumseh tin/blower housing and have a small engine shop look up what year it was from to give you a ballpark figure on the year. The twin split shifter modification is a great idea......6X6World members and fellow Super Swamp Fox owners Hydromike, Don, and I think Noel might even have done this. I plan on doing the same thing on mine once I get the T-20 back in mine. With a machine this big, I think it's a must."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"
