  • Super Swamp Fox worth in it's current state.

I've been wondering what my swamp fox would be worth in it's current state, it could use a proper exhaust, a little fiberglass work in some area's depending on just how proper someone would want it, a new choke cable (which I have for it) and a new clutch spring (which I also have for it, a red one). I'm thinking of selling it and saving up for a max four. As far as driving it I have no problems with it, usually when I fire it up I play with it for up to an hour at a time. What are your thoughts?

Pictures of it can be found here.

If I were to sell it I couldn't let it go for that price, but I do appreciate the offer.

That Swamp Fox is worth more than a thousand bucks. If I were you, I'd do a frame out restoration........new bearings and chains, tune up the Tecumseh and rebuild the T-20, and a little paint and she'll be reliable and pretty. It's really not very difficult and we'd be happy to help you along. I think you'd be very glad that you did it!

That's right' take it from a man ( JP ) who had a swamp fox shipped from louisiana to virginia, then hauled it to new york. Ha ha, for real the super swamp fox is a very desirable machine & if you have one that runs a resto would definitely be the way to go.

Thanks JP, I haven't ruled out that possibility yet, the downside to that is it would take time and money, money that could be better spent in alot of other places at the moment. Factor in that I really don't have the tools needed to do a complete resto (more $) or the room to tear this thing down and work on it..well I kinda do have the room but I need somewhere to tear it down and keep it safe from my four year old lol. It'll be about 14 months before I could afford to begin a full resto. I currently have a little more than $2,000 tied up in the swamp fox. There are two downsides to the swamp fox for me, and that is while it has seating capacity for 5, that's not five big people like myself and the wife and my dad. Thinking a max 4 would be a bit more roomy in the seating area. The BIGGEST...and I do mean biggest problem I have is the width, it's 5'4" wide....the door width on my utility trailer? 5'3"! So currently I have no way to get it anywhere to play (like my bosses property or two offroad parks one an hour away and one four hours away.) Pretty sure a max4 would fit into my trailer, possibly even into the back of my truck. I definitly don't want to go buy another trailer as I just paid mine off. So I'm kinda torn at the moment, I do like the super swamp fox, it runs, it's fun, lots of room to work on it, and it's desirable, but honestly for what I'm wanting I believe a Max4 would better suit my needs.

              HI,
Just another swampfox i would have, just to far ............
A word of advice the SSF is probaly worth more in its current condition [fair] than an incomplete restoration and most likely not operational
The items that u could fix which will maintain and possibly increase its value is all the small items .
TAKE A GOOD LOOK at all the other SSF
Things like the original battery hold down system has been changed rectify
              Tidy and update the wiring
Does the seat fit and locate properly ??
An inexpensive tidy up is to have some panels made out of alluminium sheet 3mm thick [cover all the open areas between seat and chassis ]
Jack machine up onto stands and check all chains sprockets bearings fix as needed
At least if the machine is well maintained u will most likely get above $1000 maybe up to 1800

Thanks tomo, looking at pictures of members SSF rebuilds has given me enough motivation to change my mind and I will most likely keep it and start saving up to restore it and just play with it as is in the mean time, I jacked it up this past weekend and there was very little play in the bearings so those are good for now. The seat does seem to fit and locate properly. You make some good points on things to tidy up and update, would you or anyone else here have a picture of the original battery hold down system?

                    hi
Look at pictures of others Don , Noel ,Nightowl and others[do a search for all the names ]
It is best to search under the user name and search manually thru pics as if u search swamp fox only u will only get some of the pictures .
The battery fits in a tray [USA passengerside] between output sprocket and vertical seat steel bracket .
The battery then sits out of the way under the seat .

Only use high amperage electrical switches which are well water proofed eg rubber boots etc .Run a negative cable from battery to engine and a smaller one to the dash if needed .

Here's a shot of the original battery tray on my SSF when I got it. The tray mounted to the front cross-tube, and had another attachment point to the frame somewhere.

In the picture, the front of the machine is to the left, and the tray is in the upper-middle portion of the photo. Mine was inpretty rough shape.
