  • Amphicat questions

I have obtained a amphicat with a factory ccw 225 cc engine and a 2 speed trans with reverse .I am pretty sure it was built in streetville ontario canada .I realize amphicats were built in Canada and in the USA and am trying to find out if there were differences between those built in the states and those built here ? Can anyone shed any light on this for me ?Also I think this was a later cat but maybe someone with more knowledge can enlighten me .How do you figure out how old it is ?

For the year ID only way I know is if it has a salsbury clutch it is date stamp. Seems like there are a few 4 maybe numbers then 2 digits at the end that is the year. Those digits I believe are larger. Its on the tag held on by the 3 bolts near the crankshaft bolt. I dont know the history real where as where they where built but I do know the first ones used a ODG single speed forward/n/reverse gear box and pretty sure that was built in Auburn Hills, Michigan. They also had a borg warner plunger style transmission. I do believe your right with the 2 speed style you have as being the later model but cant say for sure.

ODG -> plunger type -> 2 speed with reverse
If it don't have 6 wheels and floats.. isn't any good to me. Have you ever tried floating a 4 wheeler across a pond... Doesn't work very well does it?

You know of all the older AATV,s we had I always loved the Amphi Cat it was cool looking and everybody back then new them from the banana splits series,my father bought ours new I cant quite peg the years I think 68 or 69 not sure but it had a single cylinder engine and a ODG gear box that drove a dry style clutch setup,I think the engine was a Sach,s this machine was built in Streetsville ON Canada.

Yes, that's correct. It was a single cylinder 2 stroke Sachs 277cc.
