  • scrambler clutch springs

anybody know where to buy some scrambler clutch springs?I ordered a couple from mcmaster carr but they are not strong enough.I have been checking out some die springs but I cant seem to find the exact type. This scrambler I am rebuilding actually was so rusted that the springs rusted themselves inside the tubes and broke apart while I removed them.I had to use a torch.Anyway just thought I would throw the question out there.

Not sure what they look like on a scrambler, but the ones on a terra tiger can be replaced with race car valve springs. An engine builder will have a tool to measure the spring weight. Terra tiger ones are close to 200#

Can the spring weight be measured with broken springs? Hey Jersey what do you know about this? Your the man with the most reliable scrambler knowledge!

Sorry Drew, It's gonna take somebody with a good spring to measure it.

You would need a good used spring to measure it. I bet even then you wouldnt be able to find one that didnt set some after 30 years. But if you measure a good working one I guess it wouldnt matter.

Hey, could you get a measurement for the spring? I have a spring laying here that might be from a scrambler but I cant remember. If its not I will get a hold of my brother, I think I gave him 2 extra frame units. Not sure how gutted they were though.

You will have to add some shims to get the proper preload. I think the original springs preload 1/2 to 3/4 inch.
