  • LTV KID engine question

I have a KID. The engine does not smoke out the exhaust but it has alloy of blow by out of the oil filler breather. I suspect a stuck ring or just worn out rings. Does anyone know if you can pull the cylinders off this thing without removing the engine?
The main drive sprockets look to be right in the way of some engine shroud bolts..
    any input is appreciated

Is it running ok on all cylinders? sounds simple but make sure your not over filled with oil, that will come out the breather . You might want to contact Jeremy with the LTV KID sit maybe he has seen this on other machines or know of another vent that might be clogged . Good luck

Yes it is running on all 4 cylinder and runs strong. I checked the oil level and it's right where it should be. I don't really want to get into removing the hyrdo pumps and motors that is why I was asking if I could leave the motor in.
Now, it doesn't have blow by at an idle. only when you rev the engine or drive it.

          UPDATE !!!
it is NOT running on all 4 cylinders. I found a dead one. Pulled the plug and plenty of fire there. I put my finger over the plug hole and it has decent compression...
iit has spark and compression so its missing fuel so the intake valve must have a problem???
          any ideas guys???
          its a 4 cylinder Wisconsin VH4D

50psi might be enough to blow your finger off the spark plug hole, but likely not enough to let the engine run. It's a good idea to pick up (even a cheap) compression tester to quantify the numbers for all four cylinders. It could be something as simple as a sticky valve, a bent pushrod, or a number of things. Get a compression value on all four cylinders and compare them....

              I have a compression tester.
I will check it tonight. I didn't have much time to invest in it yestersday

I tested it. 80 pounds on 3 cylinders 0 on the last, guess she's coming apart

                  LTV KID Engine Removal

                  All,
I have to rebuild my wisconsin engine due to a dead cylinder. 0 compression.
If anyone on the board has any exp. rebuilding the engine in a KID I'd really like to hear from you. I am not sure if I can do it without rasing or removing the engine or if there is a way to get the cooling shrouds and heads off without lifting or removing the engine.
If you have or know someone who has done this PLEASE show them my post
                  Thanks
                  Keith

Keith....I've never worked on a KID,( although I want one bad), but I have worked on a couple Wisconson V-4 engines off balers. My suggestion is to remove the engine, get it on a bench and tear it down. It is going to be very difficult to get the engine apart with it still in the machine. I suppose you can get the heads off without removing the engine, but that isn't going to help you, you will have to get the pistons out, and that requires unbolting the rods from the crankshaft, and that will require total engine disassembly. If you are going to do a proper engine rebuild, you will want to totally clean the block and all the internal parts, especially if you do any machining to the block, honing, etc. My quess is you either have a stuck valve, or more likely, a piston with a hole in it. At the very least you will need new rings, bearings, valve job and all new gaskets and seals. If you can get the head off of the side that has no compression, pull that, determine why there is no compression, if you are lucky enough for it to just be a stuck valve, maybe you could get it freed up and not have to go any further. But if you find a bad piston or rings, you'll have to pull the engine and tear it down.
