  • KID question

Any KID owners out there who've had and then solved the following problem? I've "thrown" the rear upper drive chain for the right side three times in a row. The chain breaks at exactly the same link every time. I get about one to two hours of use before it breaks. Each time it breaks, the pin splits in half on the link.

Check bearings on the axle and also the bearing play in the large sprocket that runs the tripple chain. post pics of the area on the machine where it's breaking , that might give a better idea .

The bearings are fine. I suppose I can figure this out by looking at the rest of the chains but I'll ask anyway. When looking straight down, do the master links face into the jack block or away from each either and to the outside of the assembly? I'm wondering if the master link is "catching" on the tensioner for the lower rear chain.

I have an LTV KID and I have not had this problem. I think you're on the right track with the master link. If there is anything I can check on mine to help you..just ask
are you using the master links with cotter pins or the ones with the clips? and are they H grade or standard?

The problem is solved. The front right tire was flat in the track. I made sure to have all the tires aired up evenly in the track before tightening the tension on the jack block.

I always use 60H (in fact I keep some links in my tool kit) and can only get the clip kind locally.
