KID...electric clutch PTO

Well as im finishing everything up on my kid...Im putting an electric clutch on the solid type PTO. So my question is has anybody ever done this on here? and if not any advice is appreciated

I don't have a KID, so I'm not sure what your PTO looks like, but here is what I am going to do on my Mystery 6x6 that presently has a coupling for the jet pump drive that has to be engaged manually. I am going to install an electric PTO clutch to take the place of the manual coupling. My 6x6 has a shaft that is driven directly off the engine, that shaft and that coupling is always turning. There is another half of that coupling that has a sprocket on it that is idling on the shaft. To engage the pump, you have to slide that driven coupling into the idling coupling that has the sprocket driving the pump mounted to it. I'm going to remove all of that coupling, mount a sprocket to the idling side of the electric clutch, the driven side of the clutch will be keyed to the driven shaft. When I electrically engage the clutch, the idling side of the clutch will be driven by the other side, and my pump will be engaged. Like I said, I'm not familiar how the PTO is set up on your KID, maybe post a pic and see what we can come up with.

Im thinking of taking the shaft to a machine shop and getting the last foot separated and get each end keyed and mounting the electric clutch behind the hydrostats. Also planning on having a belt wheel on the part of the shaft that will remain turning from the engine to run an alternator. I need a clutch that can handle a 1 inch diameter shaft with 30 horse and about 70 ft ibs of torque. Suggestions please

Thats one of the plans I had for mine, other than the fact every shaft driven alternator on a kid I have seen is mounted at the very end (transom) so if thats where it has to go that negates the clutch idea. What do u want the clutch for? I wanted the electric clutch to drive a prop I had for it (of course only in forward not reverse) But in my testing with the prop it drives the kid hard to the right so you also have to have a good rudder system u can't rely on the tires/ tracks to keep it straight. Because of that I put that idea on the side. I did remove the PTO and seal the hole but have wanted the alternator especially to help power elec winch. My new plastic tracks cleats do push the kid better in water.

Look for electric clutches made for big riding lawn mowers like Scags. They ofter have 27+ hp gas and diesel engines, just need the right shaft diameter.

Yes I plan on having a prop and rudder system...thats the main reason I want a clutch on the PTO but also would like a small bush hog to whack down some grass and stuff to cut out duck holes before the water gets higher than 6-12 inches... I'd like to mount it so that I can also run a set up like this...

Don't know if the VH4D would have enough power for a bushhog. I have a 5' on my 30 hp diesel 4wd jap tractor, with alot bigger shaft. Maybe a 4', and you also would need a slip clutch in there somewhere to pevent the momentum of the bushhog from pushing you forward when you want to come to a stop, the elec clutch may be overwhelmed by that torque.
