  • Sears Sportster Restoration Day 1

Well not to shabby for day 1, I got everything broke down, did not twist off any bolts or strip anything out ( I was lucky). Going to finish breaking down the frame and get the bearings off today and start cleaning it up. Monday I am headed to the local machine shop and from the looks of it I only need 2 new inner axle sprockett setups machined. Here are a few pics for you guys, also I was wondering how an 18HP Kohler Triad v-twin would do in this machine?? Let me know.
    Thanks
    Tully

That looks great! I can't believe everything came apart so easily for you. I never realized the frame in those machines were so well built. This must be a heavy machine. As long as that Kohler V twin is a horizontal shaft, it should work out just fine. Great work so far!

Cool. I'm glad someone got it that's going to restore the beast. The Kohler is a great choice for power- anyone have an idea as to what engine came stock in these machines from the factory? Anyone know who did the manufacturing for Sears?

Don, I think that I read somewhere that the Sears came with a 295 JLO.

You such a lucky guy, i bet 300$ to the owner if he could take it to east brunswick. But it seems you bought it before i could get an answer.
It looks real nice for such a low price. Please keep on posting pictures of the restauration.
By the way, jpswift1 is right, it once had a 295 Jlo engine.

45$ i still cant believe it here in germany you would get much over 1000$ for a vehicle in this condition. Not long ago there was a ugly Terra Tiger without engine and one axle broken sold for 1600$ on ebay germany for example. why do i live here on the other side of the world ???
