I'm about to install tracks on my 93 Max II, and I'm looking at all the work involved. There are some who say the cages are not necessary, but recommended. Pretty sure I don't have solid axles but will verify this weekend. My thoughts are not to install the cages and rails, and to replace and repair as needed based on my driving habits? Your thoughts? Also they are the rubber buzz saw tracks...

I highly recommend bearing cages. If not you will have trouble. It would be a big expense but solid axels would be the best way to go. Cages at the very minimum though.What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction. -
which tracks are you going with ? i have the adair shackle tracks with their offset rims and 22'' tires. no bearing cages. have not had any problems with the solid splined axles, but bearing cages do add support. johnboy va.Comment

I have the Rubber Rip Saw design tracks sold by Mudd Ox... I saw a suggestion to at least cage the front axles..Run-A-MuckComment

With rubber tracks the cages and supports are a must. If you don't have solid axles I would put them in before you install tracks. If you break an axle and the track cuts the tub, there is a lot of damage done. I run a 74 max 2 with the inner bushings on the axles and cages. I have to keep the bushings very well greased or they fail with the pressure of the tracks. Next time the frame comes out I'll install inboard bearings. Not sure if yours has inner bearings or not. What size tire are you planning to run? The lug tracks can have clearance issues at front of tub and muffler.Comment

I have a 93 Max II, w/o in board bearings and I will be running the stock tire size with the tracks.. Was told the 22's will create a clearance problem.. Also my axles are the bolt retained type.. ???Run-A-MuckComment

With inboard bushings I feel cages are a must. You may have to run 20" tires with a deep lug track.Comment

Ok thx.. Decided to replace all axles, bearings, etc. with solid steel. Install all the cages and supports. This is my insurance policy :-) Thx MikeRun-A-MuckComment
